Today, JB Hi-Fi will begin advertising an Xbox bundle that includes a console and the games Halo Wars 2 and Forza Horizon 3 for $379.
That’s a great deal, but they’re calling it the Race Wars Bundle.
And look, we get it, Halo Wars, Forza racing. Race wars. But many of the staff at JB have been picking up on the political context of the term which was addressed in an internal memo from management.
“We have been advised that some store staff who have seen the catalogue have interpreted the title in a more political context,” the memo said. “Please note that it is intended purely as a reference from the Fast and the Furious franchise … please share with your teams to ensure they have the background if consumers come at this from a political angle.”
Microsoft told Kotaku Australia that they’re not responsible for the naming of the bundle or even its creation. EB Games is running a similar promotion, but they sure as heck didn’t name it Race Wars.
JB have allegedly pulled most of the advertising containing the name, but not before a cheeky snap was taken.
