It Looks Like Instagram Is Keen To Let You Post Up To Hour-Long Videos

Is being restricted to puny 1-minute Instagram video posts getting you all het up? Is it forever grinding your bloody content gears? Don’t you ever just wanna post a feature film-length video for everyone to watch on their phones? Good news, pals, you might just get your wish.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Instagram is considering a new feature that would allow users to post videos of up to an hour in length, which would allow for more creativity and flexibility when it comes to such content. But like most of these plans, the Facebook-owned company could very well decide to can it, so don’t get too excited just yet.

The feature will allegedly “focus on vertical video”, but it’s not clear whether the longer clips would be published in the Stories section, as a normal post, or both. As it stands, each Story video can run for 15 seconds, while standard posts can go for 60 seconds. The ability to posts a number of slides in a single post means longer videos are possible, but only if you’re happy for the viewer to have to swipe through a number of clips.

I mean, the real question is whether or not people actually want to watch hour-long videos in Instagram. Folks are willing to watch Netflix on a smartphone screen, so I suppose anything goes at this point. Expect a bunch of testing before we see anything more about the feature, so I’d wager it’s a while off yet.

Until then, you can watch some pretty song shit on Facebook right now if you want.
