Apple Is Working On A Fix For That Weird Crackling Sound On The iPhone 8

A number of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus users around the world have been reporting an odd issue with the new device; an annoying crackling sound during phone calls. Luckily, Apple reckon they can fix the issue via a software update.

Reported through the MacRumors forums, Reddit, and Apple’s own support forum, the tech giant says the issue only seems to be cropping up for a minor portion of its users.

“We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases,” a spokesperson told The Verge. “Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release.”

It’s not clear when this fix is coming or why the issue is happening, but it doesn’t appear to be a hardware issue. The crackling only shows up during some phone and Facetime calls and if you use the earpiece as a loudspeaker, it disappears. If it were an issue with the physical earpiece, it would be a consistent pain in the ass at all times.

YouTube user photoadventures1 uploaded a video of the sound so you can get an idea of what it’s like. Check it out below.

It’s pretty subtle, but reports say having that shit happening next to your ear is hella irritating.

Little problems like this have become par for the course during a new Apple release, but it’s always good to see them jump on a fix as soon as they can. Here’s hoping that’s the last of it, at least until the iPhone X rolls around on November 3.
