Heaps Of ‘Pokémon Go’ Users Lost Their Data After Updating & Erryone’s Mad

Pokémon Go‘ has taken the entire world by storm, and it doesn’t seem like the augmented reality app’s popularity will be slowing down anytime soon.
Creator John Hanke spoke at Comic Con last week, and promised a bunch of updates as well as servers that could deal with the overwhelming demand. He told the audience that Niantic “weren’t provisioned for what happened”, and that they’re working on keeping the servers up and reliable before they add new features.
However, the app seems to have hit another rather major speed-bump – after an update over the weekend, it seems as though a bunch of ‘Pokémon Go‘ users lost all their data and progress.
The update claimed to fix a bunch of glitches relating to catching Pokémon and displaying features correctly on the map. But when users booted the app after the update, they were back at the beginning of the game, their Pokédex empty and experience data completely gone.
By the dramatic nature of tweets about it – we’d say people affected are pretty upset.

However – never fear – Niantic are on top of it, and they got you, fam. They published a blog post about the error, which includes a potential how-to-fix.
Apparently, as part of the app’s update, the app changed its Google account integration. So that means that users may have automatically been logged in with an email address they use in the Safari web browser, not the one they originally used to sign in to ‘Pokémon Go‘.
Just maybe, just maybe, all you have to do is log out and log back in with the OG email address you signed up with.
Beware, though: some people are reporting that following the fix works, and others are saying it doesn’t. But give it a shot – we’ll have our fingers crossed for you.
