A Sequel To Bill Murray’s ‘Groundhog Day’ Is Coming To VR Of All Places

VR is a pretty unique platform, packing the powerful ability to immerse you in a story the way nothing else can. It’s interesting, however, when VR is used as the sole medium for something as big as a sequel to, say, the comedy hit, Groundhog Day, which is exactly what’s happening.

That’s right, the 1993 film starring Bill Murray is copping a sequel, and it’ll let you experience the maddening repetition of a single day through the eyes of Phil Connors‘ son, Phil Connors Jr, set 26 years after the events of the original.

Not much else is known about Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son, so we won’t know if it’s any good until we hear some first-hand reviews, but it has a trailer which you can check out below.

Sounds like the whole reliving the same day until you get it right thing is hereditary. Who would have guessed? The title was developed by Tequila Works, and published and produced by Sony Pictures Virtual Reality, as well as co-produced by MWM Immersive.

There’s no release date for Like Father Like Son yet, other than “coming soon,” but it’ll be hitting the PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive platforms when it drops.
