Energizer Has Very Much Failed To Crowdfund Their Enormously Thicc Phone

The battery in my roughly two-year-old phone fucking sucks. It is an honest-to-god miracle if the phone isn’t dead by about 3 in the afternoon. Theoretically, I am the exact target market for the Energizer P18K, described (by them) as “the world’s longest lasting smartphone“.

This phone promised a lot: 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, five cameras, and a battery life that would allow you to watch two consecutive, continuous days of video playback on one charge. The drawback? The phone is enormous.

The other drawback? It didn’t get funded. For reasons I don’t fully understand, Energiser and Avenir Telecom decided to try and crowdfund this one, putting the phone up on IndieGoGo with a goal of just over $1.7 million.

A lofty goal, to be certain, and one they very much did not meet, with the campaign finishing today with a total of $21,268 pledged from backers.

It’s unclear at this stage whether they will try again, resort to a more traditional funding model, or hit the drawing board and maybe try and find a middle ground between decent battery life and brick-sized device.
