Companies May Soon Have The Green Light To Spam The Shit Outta Yr WhatsApp

Sorry to say it, folks, but business pests could soon have the ability to message you directly on WhatsApp, like a horrible 2017 version of the cold call.

Apparently, the messaging service is currently testing the idea, but details on how exactly it will work are yet to be seen. According to the sighted documents, they’re trying very hard to avoid it becoming too spammy. Good luck.
The Facebook-owned company may charge businesses to have a yarn with customers. WhatsApp is allegedly surveying users to find out how often they speak to businesses on the app and whether they’ve copped any spam from them.
It’s early days for the trial, but dairy collar-makers, Cowlar, who is involved in the testing present an interesting insight into the possibilities.
The company wants to use the service to automatically alert farmers if a cow is not behaving normally, for example.
“It represents a huge opportunity, because in all the big dairy markets – India, Brazil, Pakistan – a lot of farmers have access to WhatsApp,” said co-founder Umer Ilyas.
It seems the intentions are to make this approach incredibly targeted, but some spammy crap is bound to fall through the cracks sooner or later.
