Behold, A Chat App Which Only Works When Your Battery Life Is 5% Or Less

In 2018, the anxiety of a dying phone battery is right up there with your car breaking down in heavy traffic. Now there’s an app that’ll make your last few moments of mobile life a little more bearable.

It’s called Die With Me, a chat app that’s only accessible when your phone has 5 per cent battery life or less. Once you’re in, it connects you with a stranger in the same boat, allowing you to comfort each other before slipping into a disconnected utopia.

“Die together in a chatroom on your way to offline peace,” the app’s website says. You can suss out a trailer for it below.

Dries Depoorter, the app’s creator, told Motherboard he wanted to “do something positive with low battery”. It’s a pretty original idea, and certainly takes the edge off having a dying phone.

In terms of functionality, there’s not a helluva lot going on once you’re in the app. It’ll ask you for your nickname and connect you with a total stranger who also has a dying phone. Your battery percentage will be displayed next to your messages and your partner’s next to theirs.

It’s all text only, so you can’t send any photos or videos because, well, neither of you have the battery to process that shit.

You can get Die With Me for Apple and Android devices right now if you’re keen on giving it a go. It’s certainly an interesting way to meet new people, but just like similar chat apps, it can also be a tool for creeps, so as always, be careful with what you share or who you decide to meet up with.
