The suspicions of millions of iPhone users around the world were confirmed back in September this year when Apple admitted in court that their iPhones are only legally guaranteed to last a measly year.
Fast forward to last week, Apple admitted to slowing down ageing iPhones with iOS updates to deal with their weak battery power. While the company said its actions are in the best interests of the user, those calling bullshit started doing so with lawsuits. Heaps of ’em.
And now, finally, Apple have apologised for this frankly dodgy behaviour in a statement.
“We’ve been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process,” it read.
“We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologise.”
Damn right. Thankfully, it wasn’t just an empty apology. The tech giant are actually gonna make some changes to right their wrongs.

Starting in Jan next year (so, in about 48 hours time), Apple said it’d make it cheaper to replace iPhone batteries, and attempt to be more transparent.
They’re gonna drop the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement from $US79 to $US29 in the US. The current undiscounted fee for the same service is currently AUD$199 in Australia ($138.95 if it requires shipping) so here’s hoping they adjust that price ASAP as well.
They’ll also update its software to allow users to track the health of their phone’s battery to “see for themselves if its condition is affecting performance”.
Good. More time for Candy Crush.
