Apple’s Launched New AirPods With Wireless Charging &, Uh, That’s About It

As rumoured, Apple has gone ahead and launched its new range of AirPods, which feature updated Siri support, a new chip, a wireless charging case, and improved battery life.

The new case is more or less the same, but it will now work the vast majority of wireless charging stations currently on the market. It also has a small LED light on the front to indicate battery life. If you already have AirPods but want some wireless charging action, Apple will sell you just the case for $129. A wireless charger will cost you anywhere from $40 to $250, depending on brand and functionality.

The previous generation of AirPods had the W1 chip which has now been replaced with the H1 chip, which provides up to an extra hour of talk time, better mic clarity, and connection times twice as fast when switching between devices. The new AirPods will also have hands-free Siri support accessible via “Hey, Siri” if you have it switched on. They also have support for Bluetooth 5.

You can buy the new AirPods with the wireless charging case for $319, or with the standard charging case for $249. There’s really not much more going on with the new AirPods, so if you’re already running them, there’s probably not all that much point in upgrading. It’s handy being able to buy the wireless charging case, though.
