You Were Right, Melbourne: Report Finds Myki Isn’t Being Monitored Properly

An report regarding Public Transport Victoria‘s hated infamous system Myki has found that no one actually knows if it’s working or not

Auditor-General John Doyle‘s report shows that the agency is still not monitoring Myki well enough, so they have no idea how well it is performing.
It’s also cost a lot more than it should have, and has taken nine years to roll out instead of two. Former transport minister Peter Batchelor committed $1 billion to developing the system in 2005 (it was expected to be established by 2007), and the total cost was $1.55 billion. There’s also been nearly 5500 complaints to the Public Transport Ombudsman from 2010 to 2014.
Speaking to any Melburnian about the Myki system almost certainly guarantees them turning bright red with rage/crying/punching someone, so we’ll take that as gospel that maybe it’s not doing so well. You okay Melbourne?
