WTF: Accountants Behind Oscars Snafu Hired Bodyguards After Death Threats

Good LORD. The two accountants at the centre of the Oscars snafu have been given bodyguards by the firm after receiving death threats online. This is the world we live in now.

Pricewaterhouse Coopers felt the extra security was necessary after media published the home addresses and family photos of Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz.

TMZ reports that the pair had also been receiving death threats, along the lines of “I hope you get fired and get cancer” and “You fucking idiot, I will fuck you every day”.

The outlet published a (blurred) photo of Cullinan’s wife doing the weekly shop with a big ol’ body guard. (Daily Mail, on the other hand, published a very similar un-blurred photo, which seems incredibly counterproductive and totally unnecessary for the story.)

It comes one day after photos emerged of Cullinan tweeting a pic of Best Actress winner Emma Stone backstage, when he was a) supposed to be looking after the envelope that read ‘Best Picture – Moonight‘ and b) absolutely not tweeting.

But just imagine for one second going into a nice, safe profession like accountancy and then 20 years later requiring bodyguards for a mistake you made backstage at the glitziest event of the year. That just does not happen.
