With their expertly cut swimwear, dynamic botanical- and animal-scape digital prints and slinky resort pieces it’s no wonder We Are Handsome have fans like Rihanna, Diane Kruger and Jessica Biel, all of whom happen to look tremendous in a Nineties-cut one-piece swimsuit. After a terrifically lively runway show at last year’s Australian Fashion Week, We Are Handsome return for MBFWA 2013 (their show is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10). Label co-founders Jeremy Somers and Indhra Chagoury are in the throes of the pre-Fashion Week panic but took time to fill out our quick pre-Fashion Week questionnaire.
1. Without giving too much away, who or what has been the muse/s for your Fashion Week collection? The brand has had it’s biggest year yet. The combination of us both travelling far and wide and the road of discovery to get here, has been very inspiring. So you could say, our journey has been our muse.
2. If your new collection could be summed up in a song what would it be? Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love”.
3. In what way is this collection different to anything you’ve done before? We’ve been very experimental this season with new fabrics and in developing new silhouettes.
4. Describe the state of your studio right now with 2 weeks left before MBFWA? Picture Berlin after the wall came down…but in technicolour.
5. What are your 3 must-have items for surviving MBFWA and the lead up? An iPhone camera, our lovely interns and quick ‘time outs’.
6. Who is your favourite Aus model/s to work with and why? Margo Bush, she’s HOT, HOT, HOT and knows exactly what to do in front of a camera.
