WATCH: We Cracked A Tinny Under The OG Kings Cross Coke Sign For The Last Time

Whilst the once seedy, Underbelly’-inspiring Sydney precinct of Kings Cross has undergone a plethora of changes over the many decades, including the cultural near-demolition we’ve seen in the past few years thanks to Rex Banner Premier Mike Baird’s nanny-statery, one rustic icon has maintained its presence for over fourty years, watching silently over the sneaky strip club punters, the half-digested kebab sprays and generations of 18-year-olds having their first cocktails atop sticky, stanky carpets.
The historic Coca-Cola sign which adorns the corner of William St and Darlinghurst Rd in the once-vibrant entertainment sector has def seen a shitload of sin, but like many cultural stalwarts of the harbour city, it too is being put to bed, in order for a shiny, new iteration to take its place.
Ahead of the brand spanking, LED-laden Coke Sign 2.0 getting its unveiling later this month, the OG, metal af (literally) original has been ripped down and ushered off to a secret warehouse to be held until sold via an online auction that kicks off tonight.
Yep, for probably a butt-tonne of dollary-doos, you could soon be the proud owner of one of the 42-year-old Coke sign letters, either to adorn your lounge-room, be the centre-piece of your backyard veggie patch, or simply as a gift for a mate you consider “a big C”.
The auction commences on eBay at 8pm AEST today, with all the money raised heading to mad dog homeless support charity The Wayside Chapel, and Pedestrian.TV was lucky enough to farewell the old girl earlier today, with our Social Media Producer Mitch, heading down for one last frothy under the iconic red and white letters.
Check out the video below and start counting your moolah, the auction runs until Monday September 12th.
