WATCH: Unaired Dr. Phil Interview With Alleged Teen ‘Cannibal’ Is Released

Ahh, Dr. Phil. The fella you tune into when you’re keen for a heady mix of relationship drama, estranged stepchildren, horny teenagers, discredited psychiatric theories and – apparently – alleged cannibals?

An unaired interview Dr. Phil had with alleged ‘cannibal’ frat boy Austin Harrouff has been released, following Harrrouff’s hospitalisation. He is accused of killing two a Florida couple and “chewing on the dead man’s face”.
“I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me,” Harrouff, 20, says in the video. “And I’m so sorry and I never wanted this to happen. It’s like a nightmare.”

It’s a 22 minute long interview, and you can see all of it if you’d like:
When asked if he was ashamed of what he did, the former Florida State University student replies “Yes, yes, yes, yes.” He continues:
I just wanted to let them know that I’m so sorry and I can imagine how it must feel to lose a bunch of close relatives. If it was real and it happened to me, I wouldn’t know what to do and I would be so sad.

After the incident, rumours circulated that Harrouff had been on bath salts, amphetamines or some other kind of drug. He denies this in the interview, and later toxicology reports backed up his statements – proving he only had alcohol and THC / marijuana in his system. He concedes in the interview that he may have a mental illness.

Harrouff’s attorney’s fought to keep the interview under wraps, saying that it could result in an unfair trial. The judge disagreed, pointing out the fact that he consented to being in a TV interview and therefore could not stop its release. Dr. Phil intends to air it at some point next week.

“The defendant has no privacy interest in the interview, as he gave it for publication on television,” the District Court of Appeal order read.
