WATCH: Teary Casey Donovan Explains How She Was Cashfished For 6 Bloody Years

‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ started tonight, and fuck did it start with a bombshell.
In a heartbreaking conversation with Ash Pollard and Natalie Bassingthwaighte, singer and winner of ‘Australian Idol’ at age 16 Casey Donovan has opened up about being catfished.
For anyone unfamiliar with the term, catfishing is when some fuckhead lures a person into a relationship with a fake, often online, persona, and is a wholly inexcusable form of emotional abuse.
Donovan revealed that, while she was touring on Idol, she’d been contacted by someone who turned out to be a goddamn fraud:
“So I got a call one night, just started chatting to this guy, was supposed to come to the airport. Didn’t come. And this was after like a week and a half of talking on the phone everyday.”

“Then when I got back for good, he was supposed to come pick me up but then his best friend came, this chick.”
Because the world is garbage, of course the unnamed woman turned out to be the dude.
Discussing how she decided to befriend the woman, who could apparently mimic voices, as a means to finding the dude, Donovan went on to reveal how the relationship, such as it was, went on FOR SIX GODDAMNED YEARS:
“It started at 16, I’d never had a boyfriend, I was always the kid that was a bit different, no one was ever interested in me.”

“And this guy was telling me that he loved me.”
But while it may have taken years to officially get out, and discover what was happening from her ex-manager, Donovan still knew something was wrong and spent time trying to break things off.
Anyone who knows a thing about abusive relationships could understand:
“I was trying to get out of it because I needed to prove to myself that I wasn’t stupid, I couldn’t let someone do this to me nor could someone be so nasty as to do that to someone.”

“Because I’m not stupid, and I thought someone had loved me for me, and it was hard to find out it was all a lie.”
Naturally but refreshingly, considering the state of the internet, folks on Twitter were largely supportive.
Unlike the crew at ‘I’m A Celeb,’ who turned this all into a goddamned prank.
