Vivienne Westwood iconoclast that she is, prefaced her Spring 09 collection with the following:
‘DIY! Don’t buy my clothes. Well, if you are rich or can afford a stylist, you can get me. But if not, do it yourself. My idea is that you can mix charity, vintage, Portobello Road, pieces of Ikat fabric; wrap it all around yourself, use a handkerchief as knickers, mix safety pins and jewellery. But above all do something! Be optimistic!’
As usual Westwood paired asymmetrical garments with mish mash patterning and her trademark DIY ethos. In an economically unstable world with increasing environmental and social problems, Westwood fears the end is nigh:
“We are in the most terrible danger. In 100 years 5 billion people could be dead, London could be inundated in 20 years. Time is running out.’
In other Vivienne Westwood news Sassybella reports that an upcoming biopic of Westwood’s life could star none other than Kate Winslet.
“If rumors are true, Kate Winslet is in line to play Westwood from the 1970s to the present day – some of Westwood’s most influential years in fashion.
This juicy bit of gossip reportedly came from the mouth of Carlo D’Amario, Westwood’s Managing Director, at her Gold Label fashion show last night in Paris with Universal Pictures set to produce the film.
