The useless belt. I wrote an entire ode to it not that long ago, thinking it could never possibly make a return because we all grew up to be older, wiser, and more aware of how you’re supposed to use belts. Surely we would never go back to a fashion time when we thought misusing an accessory would be cool?

I was wrong.
Today, a Realisation Par promo email landed in my inbox. They’re that very chic, painfully cool fashion brand started by that influencer whose name I always forget (it’s Alexandra Spencer, I had to Google). They are Very Cool. I usually click their emails to see what’s coming up on the fashion front.
Today, friends, was an alarming day. Not once but TWICE, they featured fashion inspiration involving a useless belt. Here, have a look:

Giizele, by the way, is a repeat offender in the useless belt trend.
Now, now. I know what you’re all thinking. “Just because two people posted photos in useless belts, doesn’t mean it’s coming back”. But you’re wrong – firstly, these two women have a lot of followers (Giizele has 1.2 million, for example). Realisation Par putting not one but two photos of their gear styled with a useless belt means people will soon start following suit. They’re a trendy brand, they start shit.
This is a big deal, this isn’t some rando (me) wearing it out on the street and trying to convince you it’s a thing.
The most concerning thing is, I’m not… NOT into it? Giizele’s one where she’s in the Realisation brocade dress with the gold chain belt round the middle is, ashamedly, a vibe to me.
I just hope this doesn’t extend to the useless-belt-over-t-shirt business from 2007. I simply cannot return to that, ever.
