Uniqlo Sets Australian Opening Date

In sad news for pretty much everyone but the consumer (everyone being department stores), Australia’s ongoing High Street renaissance invasion will continue unabated, and meticulously organised by colour, with Uniqlo announcing the loose opening date of its first Australian outpost.

The retailer confirmed yesterday that it would establish an Australian subsidiary in Melbourne later this year and open its first Australian flagship by August 2014.

Tadashi Yanai, billionaire President of parent company Fast Retailing, spoke about the potential move last year with The Australian, saying: “We have already started market research for Australia, although the business plan is not yet confirmed. We will be there as soon as possible. If we are going to be there, it is going to be a huge scale.”

We’ll update you with more info as it arrives. In the meantime, let’s hope they bring the robots…
