“We are very excited to be opening our first store in Melbourne, Australia,” said Uniqlo Australia chief executive Shoichi Miyasaka. “The city is a great centre of style and we hope to make Uniqlo an essential stop for fashion-conscious Melbourne shoppers looking for high quality, affordable clothes.”
“Our goal is to build a loyal
customer base by offering every visitor the outstanding level of
customer service that Uniqlo is known for within Japan, in a
comfortable and welcoming shopping environment.”
Tadashi Yanai, billionaire CEO of parent company Fast Retailing, spoke about a potential move Down Under with The Australian in 2011, saying: “We have already started market research for Australia, although the business plan is not yet confirmed. We will be there as soon as possible. If we are going to be there, it is going to be a huge scale.”
Uniqlo’s first Australian outpost will operate over four levels and include dedicated sections for men, women and children. The store was initially thought to open in August. But now, according to Ragtrader, is set to trade by Autumn.
