Two Perth Women Among Desperate Punters Trapped At Ja Rule’s Nightmare Fest

Fyre Festival, the Ja Rule-backed luxury event that turned out to be more like a surprise Hunger Games / trip to a dystopian future, is continuing to unfold in absolute chaos on the island of Exumas in the Bahamas
Among the frantic punters trapped on the island are two women from Perth, Shakira Richardson and Alanna Baldwin
According to Richardson’s sister, Laila Afifi, the pair have been stranded without their luggage, waiting for information about flights and accommodation to no avail. Afifi told the SMH:
“When they got to the island they were asking about their accommodation, what they had booked, and they kept coming back saying the tents they had booked had not been finished yet and they said, ‘Okay that’s fine, we’ll just wait’, and seven hours later it was the same information given to them.

“They’re stuck on this island, all flights to and from the islands have been cancelled, there’s no taxis, the electricity and water have been cut off, they have no where to sleep.

“Shakira’s on and offline, it’s a bit hard to keep in contact with her and we’re stressing out because she can’t charge her phone and it’s at 30 per cent.”
Afifi and her family have contacted the Australian Embassy in the Bahamas to try and sort out some kind of rescue mission. Richardson and Baldwin paid about $7000 to attend the festival.
The hashtag #fyrefestival continues to trend, and the reports emerging from the ground are a truly astonishing testament to the folly of trusting marketing bros with the event planning pedigree of Entertainment 720. Also, Ja Rule’s business acumen. Turns out it’s probably… not so great.
Get home safe, Shakira and Alanna. We are gonna need to hear every incredible detail once you’re back.
