Two Arrested After QLD Uber Driver Tracks Alleged Carjackers On His Phone

You gave to be an utter gronk to commit a carjacking, but you have to be especially dim-witted to steal a whip that you know is GPS-tracked.

Regardless, it’s been alleged that two brothers in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley did decide it’d be a great idea forcibly take possession of an Uber driver’s vehicle last night.

They’ve been charged with armed robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and other offences after allegedly hailing the ride and assaulting the 29-year-old driver with a spanner around 8:10PM.

It’s alleged one of the men took off with the Uber driver’s car, while the other followed in a second vehicle. The Uber driver sustained head injuries in the attack, and received treatment in hospital.

The men were arrested shortly after in Tanah Merah. 9 News is reporting the Uber driver was able to track them to that location with “a smartphone app.” Funny, that.

They’re slated to stand before Beenleigh Magistrate’s Court on Monday, which we’re sure is easily accessible without stealing an easily-trackable ride.
