Turnbull Still Set On Plebiscite, Says SSM Is Everyone’s Goddamn Business

We’d almost completely exhaled with relief after the Labor Party announced that they would block the plebiscite bill in parliament next week, but it’s back from the dead, baby.

Chatting to Fran Kelly this morning on RN Breakfast, the plebiscite reared its goddamn ugly head once again so that morally-conflicted marriage equality enjoyer and lover of being leader of Liberal PartyMalcolm Turnbull can weigh in on the impending Senate block.
After laughing off Fran‘s comment about the plebiscite bill not passing the senate to be put into action, Turnbull claimed he is “working very hard to get the bill passed by the Senate” and took a moment to knock back claims that journalists know how the senate will vote.
Fran pressed on the PM‘s ethics and whether he’s actually a decent human being by asking why he thought LGBT Australians should have their rights put to a vote of the public.

Malcy shot back that “all Australians’ rights are governed by the Constitution…” before Fran cut him short to remind him this isn’t a change to the constitution. Fact: checked.
Malc accuses Fran of “jumping from one premise to another” (no she didn’t) “from one lilypad another” (what do frogs have to do with this) before throwing in there that the plebiscite is “perfectly democratic” and that gay people aren’t the only ones that have a say on this.
“They are an important voice, but we’re giving every Australian a voice on this.”

Hang on, *what*? Malc you’re seriously saying that LGBTI rights are a democratic process that every Australian – no matter of sexual orientation – has a say on? Are you ok? Do you need to lie down? Have you not read the reports that a plebiscite is damaging to countless people in LGBTQIA communities?
Someone hand the man a cool flannel, he’s running hot today.
