Trained Shark-Spotter Mauled To Death Two Months After His Best Friend

A trained shark spotter has been mauled to death off the island of Reunion, just two months after his best friend was killed in circumstances that were almost identical.
28-year-old bodyboarder and shark lover Adrien Dubosc was bitten on the leg by a shark in the waters of Pointe du Sel. CPR was administered at the scene, but he could not be saved.
Tragically, Dubosc’s best friend, 26-year-old Alexandre Naussac, died just weeks ago when he was attacked by a shark off a beach near where last night’s fatal attack occurred.
Police say he was with two friends at the time of the incident. A spokesman added:
“The young man was in the water with two friends when a shark attacked him, biting his right thigh, and his groin area. The victim was pulled out of the water, and emergency workers arrived very quickly. Despite cardiac massage, he died within half an hour of the attack.”
Reunion, a small French island east of Magagasar, is one of the most dangerous areas in the world for shark attacks. Over the past five years, almost 15% of known shark-related deaths have occurred there.
Dulac was a member of the local Shark Watch Patrol, a group committed to cutting down the number of fatalities. Authorities there catch and kill around 100 sharks a year with nets and boat patrols.
