Tony Abbott Runs From Questions About Asylum Seeker Tragedy

Newly minted Prime Minister Tony Abbott is reported to have physically run away from media when asked about the latest asylum seeker tragedy, putting in question the efficacy of his purported Operation Sovereign Borders as well as the efficacy of his purported balls.

Late Friday evening a boat carrying Indonesian asylum seekers sank en route to Australia resulting in the deaths of at least 22 people, mostly children, with reports that four times that number are still yet to be accounted for. This horrific disaster has occurred just days before the Prime Minister heads to Jakarta to meet with Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, to address border security policies regarding asylum-seeking vessels.

Mr Abbott was attending a function for the AFL grand final when attending members of the media asked Mr Abbott about the tragedy at which point he fled without comment (revealed in a tweet by Ten News reporter Candice Wyatt). Dodging media questions, refusing to comment on the loss of human lives, and failing – with utterly tragic consequences – to fulfil his ubiquitous promise to Stop The Boats? Mr Abbott’s Prime Ministering is off to a particularly inauspicious start.
