Tommy Hilfiger And Mavi Give Us Campaign Deja Vu

As contentious an issue as it is, fashion world knock-offs aren’t limited to just clothes. In the past we’ve seen strikingly similar adverts too and the most recent round of campaign deja vu comes from America’s King of prep Tommy Hilfiger and Turkish denim company Mavi.

This one’s not so much about similar visual aesthetics but eerily similar concepts so here goes…Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall-Winter 2010/2011 ad campaign (photographed by Craig McDean) is called “Meet The Hilfigers” and features a fictional clan of different styles and style names that are each personified by a bright young model with their own specific traits. Mavi’s campaign meanwhile (shot by Chris Searl) is called “Meet The Mavis” and features a fictional clan of different styles and style names that are each personified by a bright young model with their own specific traits. See the difference? Mavi’s concept was originally hatched by Sydney agency Bondi Advertising, the worldwide Ad/Creative agency for Mavi Jeans. They launched “Meet The Mavis” via Facebook in March with an outdoor and transit component following in April. “Meet The Hilfigers” first surfaced online in mid-July.

We have no idea how long either ad was in the planning stages for, but it seems monumentally coincidental that they should both share such a similar concept.
