There’s A Super Adorable ‘Grandma Uber’ In QLD Helping Women Get Home Safe

We all bloody love Uber, yeah? It’s the neater, cheaper, more reliable alternative to traditional taxis that the market’s been practically screaming out for for decades.

But it’s not without its flaws. Nothing is, after all. And particularly for women, ridesharing is still kind of a tricky field to navigate. The vast majority of drivers for both cabs and Uber are male, and as such sexual harassment (or the fear of) is an issue in both documented and undocumented form.
Luckily for people in Brisbane, there’s a safe, and THOROUGHLY ADORABLE option. 57-year-old Kathy Raydings has self-styled herself as the ‘Grandma Uber,’ offering safe, reliable, and familiar transport for women (or anyone, for that matter) for the areas surrounding Brisbane’s inner-city nightlife precincts.
Raydings has been driving for the past five months now, after leaving her previous job due to an injury. Her purpose, she says, is to “make sure the women of Brisbane get home safe.

“I want those women to have no fear… It’s the greatest pleasure for me.”

Raydings offers a whole range of super cute things to passengers, like chocolates, water, energy drinks, and home made slice for pete’s sake, as well as a friendly ear and motherly advice, because apparently she’s not so much a cab driver as she is more a bloody angel sent from heaven.

She even takes selfies with happy passengers, which she posts on a very active Facebook page.
Raydings is apparently in the market to set up more Grandma’s on wheels to help get partying kids safely home. But for now, if you’re in the area and feel like this is a service you can fully get behind, all the details are on the Grandma Uber FB page.
And hell, even if you’re not in the area, why not give Grandma a shout out anyway? It’d be nice if you did.
Bless yr sweet heart, Kathy.
