The All-PoC 2018 Pirelli Calendar Is Through The Looking Glass Perfection

Tyre manufacturer Pirelli‘s annual fashion calendar is always a little bit of an event: you might remember the 2016 edition because it featured Amy Schumer almost-starkers, as shot by Annie Leibovitz, or this year’s featuring Nicole Kidman and a load of other celebs completely unretouched.
2018 is another big year, shot by ‘Vogue‘ photog Tim Walker and featuring a mixture of models and celebrities all of whom are people of colour (AMAZING!). The cast includes our Lord and saviour Ru PaulLupita Nyong’oP Diddy himself, Whoopi Goldberg, and Thando Hopa, a South African lawyer and model with albinism.
And it stands in stark contrast to the last time Pirelli featured an all-black cast in 1987, including a topless 16yo Naomi Campbell
Campbell returns for this year’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland‘-themed shoot – flawlessly set-designed by Shona Heath, and styled by the first POC editor of ‘British Vogue‘, Edward Enninful – for the fourth time since she first appeared in ’87.
Walker said about the concept: “Any girl should be able to have their own fairytale.”

The history of the exclusive Pirelli calendar dates all the way back to 1963, and over the last 50-odd years, has featured the likes of Kate Moss, our very own Gemma Ward and Miranda KerrTavi GevinsonSerena WilliamsHelen Mirren and I could really go on forever if you let me.
It’s also known for scoring huge names behind the lens like Helmut Newton and Karl Lagerfeld, shooting at gorgeous locations like Botswana and Big Sur.
There’s a slew of behind-the-scenes pics available online in the lead-up to the calendar’s release next year, which you can check out in full here.
