Stolen Girlfriends Club ‘Me & Mrs Bones’ Backstage Lookbook

The backstage lookbook for Stolen Girlfriends Club’s latest collection is dubbed Me & Mrs. Bones, which I’m reading as a pretty enjoyable and macabre take on Billy Paul’s classic Philly R&B jam Me & Mrs. Jones and/or Amy Winehouse’s soulful gender inverter Me & Mr. Jones, which also makes for a really enjoyable crooner if you’re feeling bluesy.

Back to the cult Auckland-based fashion at hand: last time we checked in with SGFC, was for their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection called ‘Here Lies The Bones‘, so the osteo-vertebrate motif has carried over into this follow-up collection which features a water-colour rhinestone skull print, baroque embroidered skeletons and extreme variations in hemline lengths in both jersey, chiffon and denim for the ladies; with a minimalist gray scale palette and collegiate references on classic menswear shapes for the lads.

Don’t be deterred by morbid skeletal motifs and sneaky groping metallic embroidery, like the R&B jam these clothes have plenty of soul going for them. Just don’t listen to the Michael Bublé version.
