Sportsgirl Once Again Ditch Models For Epic Aussie Badasses In New Campaign

The best thing about social media is that it’s made regular folks who aren’t signed to massive modelling companies into celebs. More and more, we’re turning away from the ~beautiful people~ and toward idols that are doing cool, empowering shit for the world. Cue Sportsgirl getting on it and signing a bunch of diverse women doing good stuff in this country.

There’s Bri Lee, author of the much-lauded Eggshell Skull, a deeply personal look at injustice for women dealing with sexual abuse. Science whiz and NSW Young Aussie Of The Year, Macinley Butson. Diversity advocate Mahalia Handley. Actress and mental health advocate Mavournee Hazel, TV series creator and diversity in television advocate Gemma Bird Matheson and women’s education advocate Cindy Wang round out the stellar list.

It’s their second Be That Girl campaign, with their August ’18 one featuring epic gals like muso Flex Mami and scientist Rae Rodriguez.

“We set out to empower the next generation of young Australian women to have confidence in their own identity and to share their journeys with us, their highs and lows as well as lessons learnt along the way,” Sportsgirl’s CEO Colleen Callander said in a press statement.

The campaign went live this week, and videos are rolling out on Sportsgirl’s social channels and on site.
