As a guest, ‘Hard Chat‘ is a difficult segment to navigate. It’s not about you, it’s about Tom Gleeson being a really, really big prick to you. If you go along with it too much, you look like a dumbass. If you try not to react, you look humourless. If you try and turn the jokes around, Gleeson will stonewall you and make you look like a dumbass.
No one has ever come out of a ‘Hard Chat‘ looking like they did alright. No one… except Sophie Monk.
I’m just as shocked as you that the sole survivor of ‘The Weekly‘s interview gauntlet is a former member of the band Bardot, but I am pleased to announce that this is very much the case.
Like a modern day King Arthur pulling a sword from a stone, Monk managed to pull a series of answers so perfectly balanced between self-deprecation and confidence that she managed to break Tom Gleeson’s usually unassailable facade.
Despite jabs about her musical career, working with Kyle and Jackie O and her intelligence, she weathered the storm with grace, dignity, and a pretty fucked up anecdote from school:
It’s time for a highly intellectual #HARDCHAT@sophiemonk
