Chanel has received a lot of press (and extensive mocking via excellent parodies featuring dogs) for a seven million dollar Chanel No. 5 commercial starring Brad Pitt. We figure the concept behind the ad was who cares – he’s good looking!, and it seems Givenchy has taken a leaf out of Chanel’s book by casting impossibly dreamy Mentalist actor Simon Baker as the face of its new men’s fragrance.
Givenchy president Thierry Maman explained the brand’s choice to Women’s Wear Daily saying, “Simon was a natural choice for us – he has aristocratic elegance and charisma. These are all values which have been linked with the brand since Hubert de Givenchy.”
Cool story, Thierry. All I know is, if it’s anything as good as this fan-made video montage inspired by short-lived television series Smith, featuring the music of Evanescence, I’m 100 per cent sold!
