Red Carpet Winners And Grinners From The David Jones S/S2014 Fashion Launch

If it’s starting to feel a little something like Summer in Sydney today it’s because David Jones last night fêted their S/S 2014 Fashion Launch, and definitely not because we’re enjoying the warmest July on record in over a quarter of a century, due to a large high-pressure system sitting overhead, which is causing El Niño like conditions. With mid-winter temperatures like this, who needs climate change legislation, amirite?
I digress. Last night, the nation’s finest designers, models, muses and fershin blahggers alike assembled in the agora of David Jones’ Elizabeth Street flagship to witness in succession the clothes you’ll wish you were wearing come Spring. This year, for the first time, you too were invited to preside over the events of the evening from the pants-free comfort zone of your couch by means of a live stream, which you can relive below.
After you’ve done that, we’ll contend with the night’s uniformly inoffensive red carpet situation. That sounds like something you’d be into.
It seems only fitting to kick things off with The Face of David Jones, Jess Gomes, who’s never not killing it in seasonally-apropos Zimmerman fresh off the set of a Marc Cherry suburban murder mystery.
TBH I can’t say with 100% confidence who Montana Cox is wearing [Ed. note: I thought it looked like Lover], so it’s all downhill from here for me. I will venture that it’s the embodiment of ‘fresh’ and ‘lovely’ and everything you could ever hope to ‘Meet The Parents’ in.
I’ll defer to my verdict from exactly a year ago and say that while “I get it, I don’t really get it get it, get it?” ICYMI, those are The Stenmark Twins and those are smiles you can take to the bank, ladies.
Rachael Finch is cooking up an equal parts sexy and evil plan for world domination in Nicola Finetti; together, they effortlessly channel Mystique as a bridesmaid. Namaste
I really miss Six Feet Under too, Brenda.
Gracie Otto looks so fresh and so chic chic in Camilla & Marc with ample lashings of smize.
Camilla Franks is, as always, the best possible ambassador for her namesake brand in what I’m guessing is Camilla: The Label. Don’t hold me to that though, it could be BONDS Evening Wear.
The department store seasonal collection launches are not unlike the local equivalent of The Met Gala, or CFDA Awards red carpets, in that they’re some of the only red carpets where designers will often walk accompanied by their ‘muse’.
Here we have the diminutive and severe in all-black-everything Bambi with designer Rebecca Vallance. Smoky Eye: 101 alert.
Get to know Mario-Luca Carlucci (left) and Peter Strateas (right), the designers behind their eponymous label STRATEAS.CARLUCCI. Last month they won both the menswear and womenswear awards at the Australian leg of this year’s International Woolmark Prize
Basically, watch this space if you know what’s good for you[r wardrobe].
Australian Fashion’s own first couple, Josh Goot and Christine Centenera, are equal parts black tie casual and fashion editor regal wearing chill life vibes and a print straight out of Treehouse of Horror VI: Homer³ respectively.
Twisted firestarter Ollie Henderson looks a riot in the high-sheen, #stronglook wares of the Manning Cartell clan.
Alice McCall is not a regular mom, she’s a cool mom for the night to the cherubic Isabelle Cornish. Tee hee.
Reviving the monogrammed epaulets that were integral to the styling of his MBFWA show, here’s Christopher Esber doing his best unimpressed emoji with the heavenly Nicole Pollard. She’s wearing his impeccably tailored evening wear.
My new favourite childlike empress (CC: Valentino F/W Couture) Maddison Stubbington is the filling in a luxe basics sandwich comprised of bassike’s Deborah Sams and Mary-Lou Ryan. They’re all about that comf life and I endorse their singular brand of shapeless raw seam chic wholeheartedly.
Kym Ellery opts for her namesake label and Céline’s gold S/S 2014 trapeze wedge mules; her muse for the evening, Rachel Rutt, also opts for a monastic ELLERY bell-sleeve tunic, though I doubt she had much say otherwise. Maybe she did though, who knows? I’d like to think so. Moving on. ¯_(o_0)_/¯
Romance Was Born’s Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett and their ebullient fairy godmother, Jenny Kee, are a vision in strong personal branding and exemplary of the possibilities when you’re cutting sick with fabric.
BRB tripping balls.
Model turned Nicole Kidman’s daughter, Maddison Brown looks positively serene in ornate Zimmerman armour.
When I saw Claudia Karvan at Splendour last week she was wearing a jaunty fedora. I think there was a feather involved.

Here she is with Ginger and Smart. A+ for effort; most improved!
