A number of Queensland residents in the expected path of Tropical Cyclone Debbie are refusing to leave their properties, despite some serious evacuation orders being put in place.
Those living in Home Hill, Ayr, and other several other Whitsundays communities south of Townsville have been advised to pack up and leave before 10am today, in order to avoid what meteorologists slate to be the most powerful cyclone to impact the state since 2011’s devastating Tropical Cyclone Yasi.

Despite police door-knocking in the low-lying region to alert residents of the evacuation order, several residents of Alva Beach said they planned to stay. According to one, a six-metre storm surge was predicted to hit Alva Beach during Yasi, but it never eventuated.
