QLD Facing Second Major Disaster As Fire Breaks Out At The XXXX Brewery

While I absolutely don’t want to undermine the gravity and very real seriousness of Tropical Cyclone Debbie, seeing smoke coming out of the beloved XXXX brewery gave me a sinking feeling of absolute terror. Possessing whatever gene Queenslanders have that make drinking the beer possible, not only is XXXX Gold an important part of our identity as a state, it also makes up the bulk of my drinking.

But it’s happening, the iconic brewery is as we speak billowing smoke, which I can confirm, because I live around the corner from it and just went outside and checked.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service crews were called to the brewery shortly after 5pm Brisbane time. A spokesperson told ‘The Brisbane Times‘ that there are currently nine crews on scene trying to gain access to the site.

A spokesperson has said that all people have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported.

Milton Road has been closed as they continue to fight the fire, so if you’re going that way, you might want to take Coro Drive instead.

The brewery has been producing beer in Milton since 1878.
