Preview: Romance Was Born X Jenny Kee In RUSSH Issue 49

Purely from an aesthetic standpoint it’s patently clear that Romance Was Born and Jenny Kee are a match made in technicolour, multi-textural Australiana-inspired heaven.  When the duo behind Romance Was Born, Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales met the veteran designer they admired greatly, they quickly learned the feeling was mutual. Now Kee, Plunkett and Sales share a close personal friendship – in addition to a strong conviction for eye-popping vivid prints and an untamed creative vision that defies trends.

Their ongoing relationship and collaboration is the focus of a spread in RUSSH Magazine‘s Issue 49, the “Greatest Hits” edition, in which the mag gave Jenny Kee and Romance Was Born free reign over six pages. We have an exclusive preview of the images below, set at Kee’s Blue Mountains home and shot by Samuel Hodge.

Luke told Pedestrian, “The shoot is a photo diary and sort of an extension of what we did with Jenny for her show at Australian Fashion Week, but the idea was to do the opposite… no hair [or] make up and kinda minimal.”

“We hung out for two days driving around to Jenny’s mural, mountain look outs, chasing kangaroos and visiting her friends Jan Thornley and Richard Neville (admiring his collection of Martin Sharp paintings), morning yoga and an even earlier call into Jenny’s Waratah garden and got a local tip off for the common grounds cafes “jungle juice”.”

“We are admirers of each others work and have become great friends. Jenny always says were symbiotic.”

RUSSH #49 hits news stands tomorrow, 5 December 2012, and also features a comprehensive trend wrap for SS2013, pre-Balenciaga Alexander Wang interview, and a Astrology report for the year ahead.
