We repeat: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Following the cancellation of professional fuckhead Milo Yiannopoulos‘ appearance at a conservative conference this weekend, the ‘alt-right provocateur’ has now had his upcoming book cancelled, too.
ICYMI, a video surfaced over the weekend of Yiannopoulos defending paedophilia. While he’s since attempted to clarify his comments in multiple Facebook posts [here and here], it doesn’t erase the fact that he said sex between “13-year-olds” and “older men” is good, actually, and that relationships between “younger boys and older men” can be “hugely positive experiences”.
And you know what? Paedophilia, as it turns out, is one line that his supporters (some of them, anyway) are not willing to cross. Yiannopoulos has built a career on spewing racist, anti-semitic, sexist, homophobic and transphobic rhetoric, but child sexual abuse? Shut that shit down.
Statement: After careful consideration @simonschuster and its @threshold_books have cancelled publication of Dangerous by Milo Yiannopoulos
— (((Adam Rothberg))) (@AdamRothberg) February 20, 2017
The company’s decision to publish ‘Dangerous’ in the first place has never been well-received, and last month, feminist author and commentator Roxane Gay pulled her own book from it in protest.
“I was supposed to turn the book in this month and I kept thinking about how egregious it is to give someone like Milo a platform for his blunt, inelegant hate and provocation,” she told BuzzFeed News. “I just couldn’t bring myself to turn the book in. My editor emailed me last week and I kept staring at that email in my inbox and finally over the weekend I asked my agent to pull the book.”
To recap: S&S lost:
*about as much credibility and prestige as it could
*a book by Roxane Gay
*(probably)whatever was due to Milo on signing— Alex Shephard (@alex_shephard) February 20, 2017
The latest is that Breitbart News is facing a mass walkout unless Yiannopoulos is fired as editor.
There are ongoing discussions at Breitbart this afternoon about Milo’s future with the company, per sources
