We Tried A Bunch Of Different Night Creams And These Were The Ones We Reckon Did Good Shit

Night cream is one of those products you associate with being OLD, right? It just screams “I’m the crypt-keeper”. That’s a Freaky Friday reference, and I mean the Lindsay Lohan one NOT the ancient one, I’m not old!!! I swear!

But in the ~perfect~ skincare routine there is absolutely a place for night cream, even if you have the skin of a newborn babe and have never had a pimple/wrinkle/dry skin patch/why is only my chin red situation. Night creams don’t have to be rich (but some are), they aren’t necessarily for making wrinkly skin look less wrinkly, and can in fact help improve your general skin wellbeing if you use them properly – after all, our body regenerates best at night, so going to bed with clean skin and some products on that’ll help it along is a great life choice, tbh.

I’ve tried a LOT over the last six months (and have also included some old faves) so here’s a good starting point for ya.

Glow Recipe @ Mecca Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask, $69

You might think I’ve lost my mind since this is a mask, not a night cream. But I had to include it because a) it’s amazing and b) it’s to be used when you sleep, so it gets a pass. Ignore the whole it-looks-like-actual-avo bit, this light but active mask is full of good stuff like hyaluronic acid and manuka honey, which is antibacterial – great for eczema-prone skin like mine.

It Cosmetics @ Sephora Confidence In A Cream, $68

Ignore the “anti-aging armour” bit (or don’t, if you want that) – this cream is amazing. It’s nourishing, gentle, and rich without being gross and heavy. I did find it a bit too much for day use (but I like really light gel consistency things for daytime) but it’s heaven at night.

Peter Thomas Roth @ Sephora Hungarian Thermal Water, $90

This works day and night, but I particularly love it at night because I feel like I wake up and my skin still feels moisturised – you know how some products you wake up and it feels like it all rubbed off through the evening? This one doesn’t do that. It promises improvement on everything from fine lines to uneven skin texture, but mainly it’s just a really good hydrator, which fixes most issues anyway.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra Nuit, $41.99

I’m a big fan of the La Roche-Posay brand as a whole, especially if you have easily irritated skin. Toleriane Nuit is quite light, and good if you don’t like heavy creams EVER. I also think it would suit breakout prone skin (which I don’t have but given the light-on texture).

Glow Recipe @ Mecca Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask, $69

I know, I know – TWO of the same brand! Two sleeping masks!! But hear me out – this one is more if you want to wake up with “renewed” skin. It’s got AHAs in it, which can be too aggravating for some if you used it nightly (I used this one once or twice a week) but are brilliant for dissolving dead skin cells, helping other ingredients penetrate the skin and also giving you that sought-after “glow” some lucky people have.

Mario Badescu @ Mecca Seaweed Night Cream, $34

This was my go-to for like a year, because it’s affordable and damn good. It’s fairly rich, I probably wouldn’t recommend to someone prone to breakouts from products for example – but it’s brilliant on dry skin, and did I mention it’s cheap?

Drunk Elephant @ Mecca Lala Retro Whipped Cream, $92

Another one I used until the very last drop. Lala Retro is quite heavy – not for those averse to thick creams, for example. But it is brilliant on sensitive skin. No irritations, hydration to the MAX, and I felt like it really healed up dermatitis face explosions I had.

Olay Total Effects 7 In One Night Cream, $24.49

This is just one of those products that is a failsafe if you don’t want to spend loads and you want something that actually works. It’s cheap, it’s effective, and it would be my go to if I was stuck without moisturiser and could just go to Priceline, you know? I don’t use it because it’s fragranced and fragrance generally irritates my allergies, but if that doesn’t bother you, go forth.
