NBA Star Blake Griffin Is Spearheading A Remake Of ‘White Men Can’t Jump’

Even though he’s clearly the right and obvious choice for ‘Space Jam 2,’ we’re a long, long way off seeing that happen (if it even happens at all), so Blake Griffin has had to find other avenues to keep his Hollywood dream alive.
One of those avenues, apparently, is to punch a ticket on the extremely overcrowded remake train. Griffin’s production company (a real thing) is behind a push to remake the 1992 hit ‘White Men Can’t Jump.’
The OG film, starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson as a pair of hustling street ballers, is apparently next in line for the remake treatment, whether anyone likes it or not. But at least in this instance, there’s cause for some hope.
Kenya Barris, creator the freakin’ excellent series ‘black-ish,’ has signed on the write the script for the updated version of the film, as part of the overall developmental deal he signed with 20th Century Fox back in September.
Barris, who will also serve as a producer on the new film, previously co-created ‘America’s Next Top Model‘ with Tyra Banks, among other projects.
Griffin’s production company Mortal Media is a joint venture between the Los Angeles Clippers‘ forward, and Ryan Kalil, who currently plays centre for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. Among other projects they’ve got on the boil at present is another remake, this time of ‘The Rocketeer,’ where the lead character will be played by a black female.
I mean, sure. Why the hell not? And if/when it all goes pear-shaped, we can just mine the original text for insults.
Yep. That oughta do it.
