Mischa Barton Confirms She’s The Victim Of An Ex’s Revenge Porn Attack

After reports yesterday that unknown people were shopping around a Mischa Barton sex tape, the actress has confirmed in a press conference that her “absolute worst fear was realised” and an ex had taken non-consensual, explicit photos and videos of her and was attempting to sell them.

The O.C. actress and her lawyer Lisa Bloom confirmed that they had obtained an emergency restraining order and filed a police report against the ex, who was not named.
Barton told reporters present about the emotional toll of the events, which began when tabloids began reporting the existence of the video:

I just want to say I’ve been through an incredibly hard and trying time. This is a painful situation and my absolute worst fear was realised when I learned that someone I thought I love and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments without my consent, with hidden cameras. And then I learned something even worse—that someone is trying to sell these videos and make them public.

She continued with her reasons for going public with this battle. “I came forward to fight this not only for myself, but for all the women out there.”

Bloom told the room that neither her nor Barton have seen the tape in question. One reporter repeated an allegation that the content of the video implies Barton was aware it was being filmed, but the pair shot that down. “I don’t think looking at any particular direction is an indication of knowing that one is being recorded,” Bloom said.
Bloom continued, describing this as a revenge porn attack the likes of which frequently happens to people who are not celebrities – stories which rarely get much media attention:
Revenge porn is a very common crime that happens to a lot of people. It happens to people who are not celebrities. It happens to the girls and women who are followers of Ms. Barton and it’s scary, even for a celebrity to stand up like this, but it’s important for girls and women to stand up for our rights.
