Miranda Kerr Goes High Fashion

A puzzling distinction exists, in the fashion industry, between “commercial” models and “high fashion” models. It appears that one set ride horses for incontinence pad advertisements while the other sport six inch heels in shark infested aquariums filled with neon lights. Okay maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but a lot has been made of Miranda Kerr’s foray into the world of high fashion and her recent shoot for V Magazine will only fuel the proverbial fire.

As the face of David Jones, one of Victoria’s Secret’s most popular Angels and a former Dolly model search winner, Kerr has as much commercial appeal as Guy Sebastian’s afro circa 2003. Scratch that. Kerr has more commercial appeal than the entire cast of Australian Idol and Neighbours combined. She’s a health conscious Buddhist with a girl next door warmth, philanthropic ideals and dimples. Dimples damn it. How wholesome can you get?

But with runway turns for Balenciaga’s SS2010 show, an experience Kerr described as “a total unexpected surprise”, and the below V Magazine editorial shot by Willy Vanderperre, it looks as though Kerr is diversifying her stock. She may just find herself suspended in a shark infested aquarium filled with neon lights yet.
