Michael Le Sordo has been announced as the winner of the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA365) fashion category, putting him in the eminent company of past winners including Dion Lee, Romance Was Born and Antipod!um.
Lo Sordo was selected out of hundreds of Australia’s finest upcoming fashion talent to claim the 2012 fashion grant which combines financial support to the tune of $5,000 as well as an invaluable 12-month mentorship from fashion industry luminaries Nicky and Simone Zimmermann.
At last year’s Australian Fashion Week, Pedestrian’s guest blogger Thea Basiliou (owner and buyer for Brisbane boutique Blonde Venus) picked Michael Lo Sordo as one to watch. Back in May 2011, Thea applauded the designer’s Spring/Summer collection show. She said, “The models seemed to be gliding around the room and I think that is a testament to his clothing. Beautiful, light ethereal pieces in this largely white collection floated around the room, light as air.”
