As you already know, Megan Markle has a whole load of royal style rules she has to follow since becoming the Duchess of Sussex.
From pretty bloody specific outfit guidelines to very prescriptive (read: boring) beauty standards, it’s kind of a big deal when any royal strays away from the regimented aesthetic – and that’s part of why I personally love Meghan so damn much.
Overnight the pregnant Duchess made a surprise appearance at The Fashion Awards in London to present an award to her wedding dress, Givenchy designer Clare Waight Keller.
Naturally, Meghan was wearing a one shoulder, floor-length black gown by the designer she was presenting the award to, which all seems kosher enough:
But, on closer inspection, you can see Meghan’s actually just gone and broken one of the Palace’s cardinal beauty rules:
Can’t spot it?
Well it’s not her hair or makeup, nope-a-doo. It’s her nails.

When you zoom in to the Duchess’ hand you can see her dainty little digits are painted in a gloriously thicc coat of black (or very dark brown) nail polish – similar to the kind you used to rep at the height of your emo phase back in 2005:
For those sitting there wondering ‘wtf is wrong with Meghan wearing nail polish?’ it’s significant because royal family womens famously avoid painting their nails anything other than neutral or pink hues, like this:
So for the Duchess to paint her nails the most badass colour on the spectrum is pretty bloody amazing. Never change, Meghan.
