Louis Vuitton False Advertising Bust

Uh oh. Louis Vuitton have had a print ad for their luxury leather accessories pulled by consumer watchdog, the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA), for being in breach of the truthfulness clause.

The ad in question depicts an Amish Natalie Portman-lookalike hand stitching a bag handle accompanied by text, reading:

The seamstress with linen thread and beeswax.
A needle, linen thread, beeswax and infinite patience protect each over-stitch from humidity and the passage of time.
One could say that a Louis Vuitton bag is a collection of details. But with so much attention lavished on every one, should we only call them details?

A spokesperson for Louis Vuitton has admitted that, in actual fact, sewing machines are used for the construction of the products and not hand sewing. ASA bosses judged the ad a breach because ‘consumers would interpret the image of a woman using a needle and thread to stitch the handle of a bag in the ad to mean that Louis Vuitton bags were hand-stitched’.

The ad copy has also been found to be in breach of the Massive Wanker clause.
