Legendary Designer Oscar De La Renta Dead At 82

Variety are reporting that legendary American couturier Oscar de la Renta, pictured above at his NYFW ready-to-wear show last month, has died aged 82 after battling with cancer.
Dominican-born and famous for dressing American royalty, de la Renta studied under the tutelage of Cristóbal Balenciaga and the houses of Lanvin and Balmain before establishing his own ready-to-wear empire in New York in 1965. First ladies from the Kennedy, Bush, Regan, Clinton and Obama administrations have all worn his gowns, as have celebrities like Taylor Swift and SJP on the red carpet; as recently as last month, acclaimed human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin wore an ODLR gown to marry an actor.
However, de la Renta is perhaps best known for popularising the colour ‘cerulean’
Only six days ago, he handed down the creative direction reins of his namesake label to Peter Copping, who was reportedly his second choice after former intern John Galliano defected to Maison Martin Margiela. He is survived by his wife Annette Reed and a formidable legacy.
We’ll update this story as more information comes to light.
