Lady Gaga Barbie Dolls

So someone somewhere on this crazy spinning orb called Earth felt compelled to style, customize and tweak regular Barbie dolls in the likeness of Lady Gaga. Of course they did, weird begets weird. The man responsible, a 29 year old Beijing resident named Veik, is a self-described “Doll Player” whose interest in dolls started at ten years of age. Now we’re not too sure what a “Doll Player” is but we’ll assume their intentions are far more platonic than a “Doll Playa”.

We say this because though it seems like weird voodoo celebrity worship in a padlocked basement, Veik’s creations, startlingly accurate renderings of Gaga in Mattel-form, possess a certain childlike glow. Though the terms “Doll Fanatic” and “Gaga Enthusiast” should be setting off red flags in the Department Of Crazy they’re just too much fun to be creepy! Speaking with Joonbug Veik explained his adoration of the Pantless One:

“Just look at her in those amazing wigs, makeup, and outfits! I was thinking it would be fun to make those wigs for dolls, and that a Lady Gaga doll must be interesting. Since then, I pay close attention to her; her music, clothes, glasses, makeup, everything! Every detail makes me love her more and more.”

Even more fascinating than the idea of someone creating dolls of Lady Gaga is the fact that Veik constructed the looks from basic, everyday materials. From Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s Kermit outfit to Alexander McQueen’s lobster claw heels and Hair Bows (lots and lots of Hair Bows) we’re sensing a new Etsy D.I.Y. meets Celebrity Fashion subculture on the horizon. It is 2010 after all.
