Criminally underrated comedian and all round legend Kristen Schaal is continually climbing the ranks to become the next Tina Fey, with US channel ABC (not our ABC, sadly) brokering a deal with Schaal to write and star in her own comedy American Monster.
Schaal, known for dominating the screen with her signature brand of what I like to think is Zooey Deschanel gone completely unhinged in Flight of the Conchords, 30 Rock and Bob’s Burgers, will co-write the series with her husband Rich Blomquist – a writer for the Daily Show.
American Monster‘s premise is described by Deadline as being “about a small-town misfit who becomes an unlikely celebrity when she goes on trial for the murder of the century.” It sounds incredible already, even without the knowledge that the woman who brought us this year’s sexiest halloween costume, the pizza vagina, will be all over this. There’s no date for American Monster’s release yet, but try to take solace in the fact that it’s likely to air in Australia but three years after its premiere, during an obscure and intermittent time slot on SBS’ schedule.
