Over the past weekend you’ve likely seen, clicked on, read, or aggressively commented on a story about Kim Kardashian-West being held at gunpoint in Paris, or her husband Kanye West snappily halting his gig in Queens citing a “family emergency” after hearing the news.
ICYMI, Kardashian was tied up, held at gunpoint and robbed of million of dollars worth of jewellery and other personal belongings after a Paris Fashion Week dinner for Azzedine Alaïa, at around 3am at the Hotel de Pourtalès in Paris.
French authorities have now confirmed that Kim was robbed of approximately AUD $14 million in jewellery, as well as two of her personal mobile phones. Her hands and feet were tied with tape, and some reports state that Kim was begging for her life as she believed they were going to kill her.
A source close to Kanye West has told People,
“Kim was terrified. She was just hysterical when she talked to Kanye. He said she was really upset and it took him a few seconds to understand what she was saying to him.He wanted to get to her as soon as he could. He told her that he couldn’t care less about the jewelry; he’s just thankful that she’s okay.”The whole thing happened really fast. ‘Ye says that it all hit her after the guys had left, and then it sunk in. It took her a little bit of time to pull it together. Of course her family is all there for her, and Kanye is there for her, too, but she’s going to deal with the aftermath of this for a while.”Kim left Paris to reunite with Kanye and her kids. She is very upset and couldn’t wait to leave Paris.She gave a statement to the police and left right after. She got robbed of her jewelry, but doesn’t care. She is just happy to be alive.She has never been in a more frightening situation. She still can’t believe it happened. Kris [Jenner] has been good about giving updates to concerned friends. Kim’s family feels terrible about what happened to her.This was one of Kim’s biggest fears. She’s always known the threats are out there, but for something to happen, it’s almost unimaginable.It’s going to take her a very long time to feel safe again.”

Well, it turns out that he was actually escorting Kendall Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian to a French nightclub L’Arc – he wasn’t on the hotel premises at all. A spokesperson said that this is quite a normal practice – once Kim is “safely” in her residence, Pascal will be dispatched to accompany other family members.
However, Kim’s ex-security guard Steve Stanulis has spoken to the Page Six, saying something like this was “waiting to happen”.
“Kim’s social media and her Snapchat is her undoing. When she is posting, ‘Here I am, and this is the $5 million ring I am wearing, here’s where I am going,’ you are basically inviting someone to rob you.”
He’s adamant that in a situation where five men rob and threaten the life of a woman, it is of course the woman’s fault:
“Sadly, the only person to blame for this incident is Kim Kardashian. She has tens of millions of dollars of jewelry, but she can’t pay for an armed guard to protect her? The fact that five days ago that someone broke through her security chain and tried to grab her, then this happened, shows her security is not strong enough, and this should be a wake-up call.They need to pay for an armed security guard. She almost got killed at gunpoint, because she didn’t want to pay for an extra armed and well-trained person. It takes one minute of dialogue to figure out if someone really is a cop, they should not have got in the building.”
Turns out Stanulis was actually fired by Kanye for getting too close to Kim, but he says the couple just don’t take security seriously:
“When I worked with them, Kanye would ask me to walk 10 feet behind him, which makes it so hard for anyone working their security to do anything if someone lunges at them. There was numerous times he’d try to ditch his security. He’d jump in a car and tell me to take a taxi.This was a crime waiting to happen. Kim is lucky to be alive.”
He says that due to the highly-secure nature of the hotel, someone must have helped the robbers in:
“I would say it’s either an inside job or publicity stunt. That hotel is so secure, somebody must have tipped them off that she was alone inside, or shown them a way in.”
Yowza. That’s quite a claim.
Kim is now back in the US; she arrived at her apartment in New York City with her mother Kris Jenner, and was greeted by a “concerned” Kanye. Reports say she seemed “subdued”, but Kris gave a thumbs up as a way of saying ‘she’s fine’ to paparazzi as she left the building.
