Now in their tenth year, designers Alexandra and Genevieve Smart have enlisted androgyne runway champion Julia Nobis as the face of their A/W 2013 collection, Between Somewhere and Nowhere, for their eponymous label Ginger & Smart.
Themes of transience and nomadism, of order in chaos, ancient rug techniques and of “a fierce romantic wanderer” inform a highly-wearable collection composed of armorial lacquered jacquards and strong metallics. Rorschach prints, graphic mosaic motifs and kasbah colours appear as if lifted straight from the loom, while clashing textiles (French lace, elasticised leather, heavy knitwear) provide a solid foundation that almost betrays the vibe of a collection conceived in a liminal state.
Between Somewhere and Nowhere drops in Ginger & Smart stores this week, online and in David Jones (+50 other boutiques) nationwide.
