Jordan Askill – There’s No Place Like Home

From Peter Shaffer’s Equus, Patti Smith’s Horses and Maurizio Cattelan’s startling centrepiece to the 16th Biennale of Sydney, to television’s Mr. Ed, Robert Redford’s titular “Horse Whisperer” and the proliferation of jodhpurs, riding boots and other horse-riding accouterments currently worn by fashionable non-jockeys, pop culture’s enduring fascination with horses has birthed some fascinating works.

Jordan Askill too, finds inspiration in the form, mythology and symbolism of the horse. There’s No Place Like Home, his second eponymous range of both jewellery and sculpture, combines the kinetic visual motif of his first with elegant renderings of horses, swallows and tigers set in rings, neckpieces, earrings, bracelets and jewellery boxes. It’s devastatingly beautiful and you’ll need no convincing on my part, just look at the images below and prepare to swoon, hard.

The collection is also accompanied by a collaborative animated work by Jordan’s filmmaker brother Daniel Askill and musician George Barnett of These New Puritans.
